Deep Research
Get a structured, cited report from multi-step research across the web and your tools.
Ask a big question and let AI Assistify research it for you. Deep Research plans the research, runs several rounds of searches, reads the most useful pages in full, and writes a structured report where every claim links to its source.
Before you start
Deep Research needs a way to search. Install at least one of:
- Web Search or Wikipedia Search from the Tools store - see Search the web, or
- an MCP connector that can search, such as Notion or Linear.
Without one you'll see "Deep Research needs a search tool."
Run a research task
- Click the Deep Research button (the telescope) under the message box so it reads Deep Research: ON.
- The message box now asks "What should I research?" Describe your question with as much context as you can:
Compare the leading open-source vector databases for a
10M-document RAG app: performance, hosting cost, and
ease of operation. Recommend one.
- Send, and follow along in the research panel.
Follow the progress
The research panel shows each stage live:
- Planning the research - the questions it will investigate.
- Searching - each query it runs (Searching "...").
- Reading - the pages it opens in full (Reading ...).
- Writing the report - the final write-up.
A summary line shows how many searches it ran, pages it read and sources it used.
Read the report
The report has headings, findings and a conclusion. Numbered citations link to the Sources list at the end - click one to open the original page.
If research stops early
If you see "Research stopped early", the report covers what was found up to that point. Try a narrower question, or add another search tool and run it again.
